Council votes on MPS I being a mandatory Screening for newborns in the state of Florida

MPS SuperHero Foundation, along with Project Alive, Julius Louis Happy Little Guy Foundation, and EveryLife Foundation, attended the Newborn Screening Advisory Council Meeting in Jacksonville, FL to advocate for MPS. The Council voted today on MPS I being a mandatory Screening for newborns in the state of Florida.

1 out of about 150,000 boys are born with Mucopolysaccharidosis II (MPS II), also known as Hunter Syndrome. This rare metabolic disease is one of many types of MPS which affects the joints, the liver, the spleen, the airway, the heart, and in most cases, the brain which goes through cognitive regression. The life span for someone with this disorder is expected to live up to around 12-15 years old.
